The Country

Slovenia is an unexpectedly wild, beautiful land and home to the famed Lake Bled, arguably the cutest capital in Europe and some very tasty food and wine. Combine this with incredibly friendly locals, plenty of snow and vast mountains peaks and you have the perfect winter wonderland!

Slovenia’s capital perfectly mixes baroque facades with the 20th-century native architecture. Its iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River. With colourful houses, cobbled streets and Ljubljana Castle, that sits impressively on a hill looming over the city, it is impossible not to be charmed.

Lake Bled

Lake Bled is a glacial lake fed by hot springs. The town of Bled contains a church-topped islet and a cliffside medieval castle offering the perfect photo of the Lake. Sometimes during particularly harsh winters it even freezes and the boat ride to the Church of the Assumption turns into an icy walk!

The Season

Slovenia’s winter season is comparatively mild compared to its more eastern neighbours due to its central location but you can still expect temperatures below freezing so you’ll need to wrap up warm. Winter snow typically arrives in Slovenia around mid November, finishing at the end of March but with the effects of global warming winters are becoming harder and harder to predict. We highly recommend you pack for very cold temperatures as it’s always best to be too warm than too cold!

December:  The husky season starts at the beginning of December when you can expect temperatures of around -5 degrees Celsius and low lying fog in the mornings. Unsurprisingly, the festive period is a peak period.

January & February: The peak winter months where snow is almost guaranteed, with fog less likely and a good chance of crisp clear skies, especially in the mornings. You can however expect the temperatures to be closer to -10 degrees Celsius.

March: Offers your best chance of blue skies and slightly warmer weather, with temperatures pushing up towards 0 degrees and occasionally above freezing level.
