From rumbling volcanoes to sweeping, sandy beaches, Costa Rica’s beauty is evident in every corner. On this action-packed adventure we try grade III whitewater rafting in Sarapiqui, take bikes around Lake Arenal and have a go at zip-lining through the misty cloud forest of Monteverde. Our adventure ends in the lush Manuel Antonio National Park, where we can appreciate the wildlife and picture-perfect coastline on a catamaran excursion.
Activity Level: 3 (Moderate).
If you’re reasonably fit, enjoy the outdoors and are looking for some exercise then this trip is for you. The itinerary includes whitewater rafting, cycling, walking, zip-lining, snorkeling and a boat excursion. White water rafting is suitable for adults and children (min. age 12), previous experience of rafting is not necessary but is recommended for any clients over the age of 60.
The driving distances are not very long and most of the roads that we travel on are of good quality, aside from the road into and out of Monteverde which has a poor surface for the final part of the journey. Heavy rain can increase the driving time here. There are several included and optional walks on the itinerary which occasionally involve walking on rough paths, but these are suitable for most levels of fitness. During times of heavy rain, trails can be muddy and slippery and extra care should be taken. Many of the areas visited on the trip are hot and humid and there is the chance of heavy rain year-round – this is why Costa Rica is so green!
