The Forest of Dean has a lot to offer in one fairly small package! Now home to some fantastic biking trails (for all levels and it’s a great place to learn) to add to it’s great hiking, it also boasts the River Wye snaking it’s way along it with it’s scenic canoeing, and of course the striking wall of rock that is Symond’s Yat and the great climbing to be had there.
We’ve got a great little hostel (linked to a pub you’ll be pleased to hear!) close to all the action, with biking and hiking from the door, and a short drive to the canoeing and climbing (or other hikes).
Cooked breakfasts at the pub are included, and we’ll eat dinners there too (pre-ordered and paid for once there).
With miles and miles of beautiful singletrack riding, and year-round surfaced tracks such as the renowned Verderers’ Trail – there is something for everyone. Start out on a lap of the 11km, blue grade Verderers’ before stepping up the the red graded Freeminers’ Trail – used by all the magazines for their bike testing. There simply isn’t a better location for an introduction to mountain biking – before you know it, you’ll be braving the drops and jumps on the freeride and downhill tracks.
Bike is available if required from £19 for a 1/2 day or £26 for a full day.
A huge variety of lovely forest walks, or if you fancy something more dramatic head to the Wye Valley and Symonds Yat. There’s also the fascinating Sculpture Trail near to the accommodation, featuring 17 individual outdoor sculptures. The 4 mile trail is a result of a collaboration involving the Forestry Commission, two art organisations and fifteen artists.
The River Wye is famous for it’s stunning scenery and gentle flow, making for some of the UK’s best canoeing. Boats are available to hire from £22.50 per person for a half day trip down the river. As upon registering if keen to book this.
Experienced climbers may want to come down and do their own thing – please let me know if so – but if you’re new to it and looking for an instructor to take you out and show you some great introductory climbs then ask upon registering and we’ll get you some prices depending what you’d like to do and for how long. Price may well depend on numbers.
The hostel has rooms of 2, 4, 5, 9 and 12, taking 32 in total, but we’ll limit it to 22 in order to keep some space and not pack you all in too much! Most are bunks, but they’re full-sized and decent, and with reducing the numbers not too many will need to sleep in the top ones! First come first allocated! :-)
To book – please register interest on the button above and we’ll be in touch with payment details. Please also let us know if you have any food requirements/allergies upon booking.
