The flagship trip of the year is heading back to one of our favourite resorts – the awesome Tignes! Home to some of the best skiing and boarding in the world and apres-ski to match!
We’ve got a great hotel in the liveliest village (Tignes Le Lac), a very short walk from the slopes and also from most of the apres! It’s got an indoor pool and sauna/steam rooms too.
As ever we hope you’ll join us on our biggest trip of the year, usually between 60-75 people and covering all experience levels, so if you’re a complete beginner through to off-piste guru then you’ll find people to ski/board with. With such a great group you’ll always find people up for the same thing you are, whether it’s hitting the Folie Douce and apres-ski every day, chilling out with the tea and cakes back at the hotel, or trying out some of the extra activities available.
One of the highlights of the week is our epic fancy dress day. We start and finish the day in fancy dress, taking over the slopes and many a bar with an array of brilliant costumes – theme for 2020 will be announced by the end of the year!
We’ve got 70 places held for now, and you can secure one with a £175 deposit.
Rooms – we have 20 twins, of which 4 are superior ones with piste/lake views, at a supplement of £100 per room. There are also 10 triples, which are slightly larger and have 3 single beds. Rooms are given out on a first come first served basis.
Cost – £885pp (saving £174). Non-member rate – £975. Including flights, transfers, 7 nights twin room accommodation on a chalet-board basis. This includes breakfast, afternoon tea/cake and dinner (with one night off when we eat out at own expense).
Flights – full flight info is below, but the headline facts are: Gatwick to Grenoble, with BA, outbound 1030/1310 and inbound 1410/1450.
TO BOOK – Please register on the button above and we’ll send payment info for that.
The following is some info taken from the Mark Warner website to give you a fuller picture about the resort and hotel:
A ski holiday in Tignes centres around three small villages sitting high above the tree line. Forming part of the Tignes-Val d’Isere ski area, Tignes provides a huge variety of varied terrain (300km in fact) for skiers and boarders from challenging off-piste powder to leisurely cruising runs.
Off the slopes there is plenty going on with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. A recent addition to the resort is the fantastic swimming pool and wellness centre in Tignes Le Lac. And the weekly market is wonderful to meander through.
On the mountain
Tignes is known for being one of the most exciting resorts on the European ski scene. Few things can beat gliding down a run while enjoying the stunning surroundings on a sunny day. Sunny days aren’t always guaranteed however Tignes certainly compensates for this, with the best snow and views in the Alps and extremely well maintained terrain. Beginners can take advantage of the fantastic ski and snowboarding lessons.
The nursery slopes of Tignes-le-Lac and Le Lavachet are the perfect places to take your first skiing and snowboarding steps. They are snow-sure with a good selection of wide, open, well maintained nursery slopes free of through traffic. Once you’ve found your ski legs the long runs down to Tignes-les-Brevieres are popular and home to many restaurants, perfect for lunch on the terrace.
Intermediates will love the wide expansive runs with the highlight of the ski area being the Grande Motte glacier with its excellent runs back down to resort. While powder junkies have so much to explore in the off-piste areas of the Grande, Petite Balmes, and the Grande Balme. Freestylers should do the leg work and explore their way around Tignes’ famous snow parks, host to the European Winter X Games.
Après & nightlife
An integral part of the ski day, Tignes is renowned for its superb après ski and nightlife scene. Tignes’ fragmented villages mean that knowing the best après ski bars and clubs in the resort is crucial to having an unforgettable night. From lively mountain bars to cosy, local restaurants serving up vin chaud and warm crepes, Tignes makes sure all of its visitors have somewhere to warm up and relax after a day on the slopes.
Après ski in Tignes should begin at La Folie Douce over in Val d’Isère, a real favourite with skiers because of the great atmosphere and lively vibe. Here you can expect high energy dancing while world class DJs project international beats across the mountain range.
Continue the party until the small hours at one of the brilliant bars and nightclubs in the village. Loop and The Drop Zone in Tignes Le lac have excellent bands playing live music. In Val Claret skiers can relax next to a roaring log fire at the Alpaka Lodge. For a more light-hearted event, enjoy some stand-up comedy at the Loop bar, which also has live music and DJ sets.
Around the town
Tignes is made of a collection of high altitude hamlets, connected by a free public transport system. Mark Warner’s resorts are located in the villages of Val Claret and Tignes Le Lac, the two main villages in the overarching Tignes vicinity. With all the charm and commodities associated with French ski resorts; Tignes has established itself firmly as one of France’s most popular ski destinations.
Families love the range of child-friendly activities in the resort including ice-skating, dog sledding and a modern leisure centre. A variety of other activities are also availible for guests to experience. For those looking for seriously fun après ski, Tignes can rival the likes of St Anton in Austria for its range of lively après ski bars both on the mountain and in resort.
No trip to the French Alps is complete without visiting a local Savoyard restaurant. The restaurants in Mark Warner’s hotels are closed for one evening of the week. Take this opportunity to try a delicious cheese fondue or Raclette in one of the many traditional restaurants in the town.
